Megillat Esther - King's Seal
Code: 1013

Cut out, color illumination, gold paint, stamps.
15 small arch framed color illustrations and 2 large ones depict scenes of the story of Purim, following painting style of 11th century Georgia, as Georgia is recognized as Madai, one of Ahasuerus's 127 provinces.

This ancient style is completely flat, without any perspective, reflecting a simplistic view of reality, in which all surfaces are flat, all faces are the same, and the figures are dressed in the same fashion. However, I did put in some details such as moustaches for the ministers, or beards for the Jews, to allow recognition of the figures of the story. The Jewish warriors have shields, and the king's soldiers have their unique head dressing.
The gestures of the painted figures are theatrical, as if the figures froze while displaying the act.

The royal crown is stamped on top of each of the columns, because the Megillah is written so that each column begins with the word "Hamelech", the king. Small crown stamps create royal textile background to the story.

I used stamps because of the major role of the king's seal in Megilat Esther. Even the king himself, having stamped his order with his seal, is not able to change his ruling any more. The king's ring, with which he seals his order, is given first to Haman, and later to Mordechai, endowing them each in turn, with Royal power.
