"O Wonderful Tree"

The Talmudic story tells us about a man who walks in the desert. He is tired, thirsty and hungry. The man finds a large tree, growing over a spring of water, bearing fruit and giving cool shade.
The man rests in the shade of the tree, eats from its fruits and drinks water from the spring. When he leaves, he says to the tree:

O, wonderful tree, how can I bless you? I would bless you that a spring of water should run near your roots, that your fruit be sweet, that your shade be cool; but you already stand over a spring of water, you have beautiful cool shade and you bear sweet fruits. So my blessing to you is: "May it come to pass that all the seedlings that emanate from you grow to be as you are".

The tree is an allegory for a person who already has been blessed with offspring, with learning, with worldly treasures and with the respect of his colleagues. The blessing for him is: "May your sons and daughters grow to be as you are".
