In this piece, I emulate the work of the 15th century Lisbon Judaic Workshop, which created many magnificent manuscripts, among them is the Lisbon Bible.
Characteristic of the Lisbon style is the use of micrography, tiny lettering, that forms lines and shapes, all written, as well as the use of different sizes of lettering in the same page. Also the delicate floral motives, and the thin line frames originate from the same style.
The texts are:
- The blessing over the candles
- The meditation "Yehi Ratzon", the plea for the family
- Genesis 1 and 2, the two chapters of the creation of the world
- Eshet Hayil, Woman of Valor, in micrography.
- In the circle, in the six gold leaves the letters which form the words "Shabbat Kodesh", interspaced by the days of the week.
Seven of the birds of the land of Israel adorn the outer border: White Stork, Caspian Tern, Grey Heron, House Sparrow, Red Backed Shrike, Great Tit, and the European Roller.
Limited edition of 499 copies, signed and numbered.
