Shabat Genesis

In this piece, I am continuing the work of the 15th century Lisbon Judaic Workshop, of that created many fabulous manuscript, among them is the Lisbon Bible. Characteristic of the Lisbon style is the use of mycrography, tiny lettering, that forms lines and shapes, all written, as well as the use of different sizes of lettering in the same page. Also the delicate floral motives, and the thin line frames originate from the same style. The texts that accompany the blessing over Shabbat Candle lighting are: the meditation "Yehi Ratzon" in the inner frame; the two chapters of the creation of the world, Genesis 1-2, in the mycrography. in the circle, Eshet Hayil, Woman of Valor, and the 6 letters which form the words "Shabbat Kodesh". Seven of the birds of the land of Israel adorn the outer border: White Stork, Caspian Tern, Grey Heron, House Sparoow, Red Backed Shrike, Great Tit, and the European Roller. This is a Giclee print, one of a limited edition of 499, and the gold in it is applied by hand.
